Whoa! Google "identifying" hackers?

This is interesting! Seems to me Google is painting with a pretty wide brush when they send Dorothy a message like this - I know Dorothy and she's no hacker!

Google telling me I am a hacker?
"For the second time in as many weeks Google is telling me I am a possible hacker in a message displayed after adding a year range to a search string. Both times I added "2007..2008" - the only change to a string that produced results before. Is there any way I can get around this message being generated and still use the date parameter? Has anyone else encountered this?" ~ Dorothy Beach, CIR

Web-based screening may lead to bias suits

"Looking someone up on a Web site is not illegal because the Internet is public property," said Sue Murphy, manager of the Nashua, N.H.-based National Human Resources Assn. "But where the liability starts to come into play is when people are making hiring decisions based on that information without coming back and talking to the applicant," she said. ZoomInfo - Friend or Foe?

J Francisco asked, over on ERE, I'm looking for input on ZoomInfo. I was offered a free trial for 24 hours so I used that to look for professionals who were a potential fit for an opening we have at our company. My question is this: The email addresses for 98% of these people are their work addresses. I don't feel comfortable contacting individuals at their work address regarding a new opportunity. It seems unprofessional and frankly, pretty tacky. I'd like feedback as to how I could use ZoomInfo in my recruiting (since it seems that a lot of recruiters already do) and do so in an ethical manner.

Apostrophes Can Stir Lots O' Trouble for Internet Sourcers

It can stop you from voting, destroy your dental appointments, make it difficult to rent a car or book a flight, even interfere with your college exams.

More than 50 years into the Information Age, computers are still getting confused by the apostrophe. It's a problem familiar to O'Connors, D'Angelos, N'Dours and D'Artagnans across America.

It's not just the bad luck o' the Irish. French, Italian and African names with apostrophes can befuddle computer systems, too. So can Arab names with hyphens, and Dutch surnames with "van" and a space in them.
