I was reading the HR Search Marketing blog "Don't Make Job Searchers Think" in which it was noted, "According to usability expert, Jacob Nielsen, you should never make your visitors struggle to find information within your website. Web users are impatient, if they do not find what they are looking for in a matter of seconds, they'll leave and find what they need elsewhere."
The author then went on to remind companies that a smoothly running and easy-to-find corporate careers page is a must have in today's competitive hiring environment. It got me to thinking and gave me an idea for a short telephone names sourcing lesson:
Don't Make Gatekeepers Think. They're paid to answer the phone and if you ask them something that's outside of their normal duties or causes them to pause and wonder who you are or what you’re up to or why you need to know, you're dead in the water. You have one chance to slide gracefully past her and that is in directing her actions – tell her what you want her to do - don't give her the opportunity to "think"!
